Key programming and vehicle electronics

Car key programming in Evesham. Remotes, immobiliser chips and smart keys programmed at the vehicle, alongside mobile auto locksmith work.

Vehicle electronics, for this service, means the programming a car key needs. We pair remotes, transponder chips and smart keys to the immobiliser, and we carry out the diagnostic steps that let that key start the car. General servicing and unrelated repairs are not this service. The work is done at the vehicle. Evesham is the postal address only.

Car key programming

Modern keys are electronic. A remote sends a lock command. A transponder chip answers the immobiliser. A smart key is recognised when it is near the car. Each of those has to be programmed to that vehicle. We do the programming beside the car with diagnostic equipment we bring to the vehicle.

Tell us the year. A car from 2014 and a car from 2021 can look similar and still use different keys. The year, and a photo of the fob, show whether we are pairing a remote or a keyless system.

  • Remote, transponder and smart key programming
  • Done at the car, not on a shop counter
  • Included when we supply a spare or a replacement
  • Not a general vehicle-electronics repair service

The remote unlocks, the engine will not start

This is a common programming job. The doors open, the dash may show a key symbol, and the engine does not turn. Do not buy another fob until the car has been read. The remote you have can often be programmed again. If it is the wrong generation, we say so from the photo and the year, and a correct key is supplied instead.

A blade cut at a high-street shop can turn the door and still leave the immobiliser unanswered. That key needs programming, or it needs to be replaced with one that can be programmed. Send a picture of the key head and the buttons before a second purchase.

Programming when the key is new

A spare or replacement car key is not finished when the metal is cut. The new remote or smart key is programmed on the same visit, at the car, so the immobiliser accepts it. You should be able to lock the car and start the engine before we leave.

On an all keys lost job the programming is longer, because the car has no working key to copy. We confirm that procedure from the registration and the year before we travel. The programming is still done at the vehicle when the system allows it.

What the electronics work does, and what it does not

The diagnostic read is there to identify the key system and to complete the programming. It is not a full mechanical inspection, a dashboard repair, or a fix for an unrelated electrical fault. If the car needs that kind of garage work, we will say so rather than treat it as a key job.

Where a control unit has to be coded so that a new key will start, that coding is part of the key procedure and is quoted with the key. It is explained before we begin, in plain language: what the car is asking for, and whether we can do it on site.

The visit is mobile, on the same area as the auto locksmith service. We need space beside the car for the equipment, at home, at work, or in a car park. If the bay is too tight, we agree a short move once the car can be opened.

Programming questions

The doors open and the car will not start. Is that a new key?

Not always. We check the remote you have. Many of these are programming, not a replacement.

I bought a key online. Can you program it?

If it is the correct system, yes. Send a photo and the year before you buy another.

Is programming included with a new key?

Yes. A key we supply is programmed at the car so the immobiliser accepts it.

Do you repair dashboards and sensors?

No. The electronics work is the programming and coding the key job needs.
