Spare car keys
Order a spare while one key still works. We copy that key at the car: the blade is cut, and the remote, transponder or smart key is programmed so the immobiliser accepts it. You keep the original and leave with a second key.
A spare is usually the lower-cost route because the car already trusts a working key. Bring that key with you. Tell us the make, the model and the year, and where the vehicle is parked. If the only key has already been lost, the job is a lost car key, not a spare.

Replacement car keys
A replacement is the right request when the key is damaged, the blade has snapped, or the key you relied on has gone and no working spare is left. We supply a key for that vehicle and program it so the car will start. Ownership is checked before a new key is made, using the registration and the details you can show for the car.
If one key still works and you only want a backup, ask for a spare. If every key is missing, including any spare at home, use the lost-key page and say that it is an all-keys-lost job. Those two bookings use different equipment and take different amounts of time.
What kind of key the car uses
Older cars often use a remote with buttons, plus a chip in the head of the key. Newer cars use a smart key or a keyless fob that only needs to be inside the car. Both still have to be programmed. A blade that turns the door is not enough if the engine will not start.
If the doors open and the engine does not, the key may only need programming. Send the year before you buy another fob. If the key is shut inside the car and you do not need a new one, that is vehicle unlocking.
Van keys, and keys bought online
Van and commercial keys are often a different system from the car on the same drive. Name the van, the year and the fact that it is a van. We quote it on that system, not as a copy of a family-car key.
A shell or fob bought online can sometimes be programmed, and sometimes it is the wrong key for the car. Send a photo of what you already have. We will say whether it can be paired or whether a correct key has to be supplied. Do not buy a second fob until the first has been checked.
