Audi TT with all keys lost

This is a genuine job completed by GsmHelp Electronics Workshop on an Audi TT (Mk2, 8J platform). The customer had no working key at all — not a spare, not a damaged one. That changes the job completely, because the route used to add a spare key is not available when the vehicle has nothing to authenticate against.

Why an OBD key-learn was not an option

On this Audi generation, the immobiliser secret needed to teach a new key is held in the instrument cluster. When at least one working key exists, the data can usually be handled through the diagnostic socket. With all keys lost, that path is closed: there is no authenticated starting point, so the data has to be taken from the module that holds it.

How the job was actually done

  1. Vehicle identification and ownership check. Before any work started, the vehicle and the customer's right to the work were confirmed. GsmHelp does not carry out key work without this.
  2. Non-destructive entry. The vehicle was opened without damage to gain access to the cabin.
  3. Cluster removal. The instrument cluster was removed and taken to the bench. One of the photographs below shows the cluster opened, alongside the programmer and the laptop running the EEPROM/FLASH read.
  4. Immobiliser data read. The cluster memory was read directly. This is the step that recovers the immobiliser data the vehicle expects a key to answer with.
  5. Key production and programming. A new key was cut and a transponder written to match the recovered data. The remote functions were paired to the vehicle.
  6. Refit and road test. The cluster was refitted, the vehicle was started, and the mileage, warning lights and remote functions were checked. In the cluster photograph you can see the vehicle running with the new key.

What this type of work does and does not include

This was an electronic immobiliser and key job. No mechanical lock or ignition barrel work was carried out — the original locks and barrel were left as they were. Cluster-level immobiliser recovery is supported on selected Audi, SEAT, Skoda and Volkswagen models; whether a specific vehicle is supported is confirmed before attendance from the registration, model year and the exact cluster fitted.
