BMW Remote Key Diagnostics – BMW 5 Series Touring
This case study shows a genuine job completed by GsmHelp Electronics Workshop. The photographs on the page are associated with this specific vehicle or module and the text below explains the work in a customer-friendly way.
01The problem
Neither BMW remote key would lock or unlock the vehicle. Because both remotes failed at the same time, replacing the keys without diagnosis could have missed the real fault.
02Diagnosis
Testing traced the problem to the BMW Diversity Antenna system in the tailgate area. Water ingress and corrosion had damaged the antenna and its ground connection.
03Work carried out
The faulty diversity antenna was replaced and the corroded connection was repaired. The existing remote keys were then retested with the vehicle.
Completed resultBack to a working solution
Remote central locking was restored and the customer's existing BMW keys worked normally again.
BMW remote key not working: checking the Diversity Antenna
A BMW key fob that stops locking or unlocking the car is not automatically a failed key. When more than one remote is affected, the receiver, Diversity Antenna, wiring, power supply and related vehicle electronics should be considered before replacement key fobs are ordered.
In this BMW 5 Series Touring, vehicle-side diagnosis identified water and corrosion damage in the tailgate Diversity Antenna system. Repairing that fault restored the existing remote keys, which avoided replacing perfectly usable keys.
BMW key-fob repair starts with the correct fault
GsmHelp can assess supported BMW remote-key and central-locking faults in Evesham and surrounding Worcestershire areas. The aim is to establish whether the problem is inside the key fob or elsewhere in the vehicle before recommending key repair, key-fob replacement or vehicle-electronics work.
BMW remote key not working: key fob or Diversity Antenna fault?
When one BMW key fob stops working, the key itself is an obvious suspect. When both BMW remote keys stop working, vehicle-side diagnosis becomes especially important. On BMW Touring models the Diversity Antenna / amplifier and tailgate wiring can be involved in remote central-locking reception, and water ingress or corrosion around the antenna area is a known source of faults.
This is why BMW key-fob repair, BMW remote key repair and BMW Diversity Antenna repair should not be treated as the same job. Testing determines whether the remote is transmitting and whether the vehicle is receiving the signal before replacement keys are recommended.
