Lost key, broken key, or key that has stopped working

These are three different jobs and it is worth being clear which one you have:

• Key lost, none left. Immobiliser data has to be recovered before a key can be produced. The largest of the three jobs.
• Key physically broken but you still have it. Often the cheapest outcome, because the transponder inside is frequently undamaged and can be transferred or re-used.
• Key present but not working. Frequently a battery, a worn transponder or a failed remote board rather than a key that needs replacing at all. Worth testing before buying.
